No, M$ only messed up by not making the XB1's gpu 1 notch stronger. If they were on par with the PS4, most of the debate would be about the value proposition. That can be easily overlooked with the right sales pitch, but power is never going to change. If the developers and system designers do find a "special sauce"/capability to get more out of the XB1 and get it closer to the PS4, then this will be a much closer battle. If they don't, it will be a slow grind for M$.
It is near the end of the end....
