So I've finished Sound Shapes and I have to agree with what our favourite Sleepyprince said about the game. I have no idea where all this acclaim comes from.
The campaign is short and very easy. The death mode on the other hand is frustrating and depends on luck way too much. It's a bad game when you play a level flawlessly and still lose, because you weren't lucky with the way the collectable dots appeared on the screen. You need to get a perfect playthrough AND be lucky to pass a level. I ended up restarting many levels right after seeing where the first dot appeared, cause I could already tell if I had a chance to finish the level or not. That's not good. The best thing about it are 2 platinums, which albeit frustrating are quick to get.
Maybe I didn't like it very much because I found the music rather more annoying than inspiring. I only liked it in a handful of levels and actually turned it off in many parts of the game. There are also only precious few levels in which the music actually matters and you have to listen to the beat in order to finish a level - something that I was expecting to be the norm in this game.
So to sum up, this game sure isn't for everyone, it getting 8-9 out of 10 in many reviews makes me appreciate Mario that much more.
Wii U is a GCN 2 - I called it months before the release!
