disappointing again, but not unexpected at all with this one because of all the zombies. i hope ac4 can at least redeem the x1's name a bit with 1080p on x1. it seems to be the last big title left.
I think at the end of the day the "problem" is the X1 is arguably maybe only 4-6 times as powerful as 360.
If you double the resolution from 720 to 1080, then you halve that. it's only 2-3 times as powerful at 1080p.
The thing is you maybe need 5X to show a generational difference. So your choice is:
720P with 5X gfx power of 360
1080P with only 2X gfx power of 360
The former will give people a "next gen" difference and the latter wont. So thats why we're seeing so many 720 games.
But I still hope X1 will get better over time and we'll see more 1080 or at least 900P.

1080p is 2,25x the pixel density... and 60fps is at least 2 times as demanding as 30 fps... so in the end for a Xbone game to run 1080p60fps of a game usually being 720p30fps on Xbox360 they should basically have the same graphics quality (2x2,25=4,5)... and since PS4 isn't that much more powerfull than Xbone (maybe 30% to 50% - if by a long stretch) we could say that when Xbone is better optimized and hit 1080p60fps (not the case because most will preffer more effects) Sony will be there with a little more effects... so Yep... we are pretty much locked on a 720p60fps~1080p30fps for xbox (varying in this limit) and 900p60fps~1080p45/60fps for PS4 when having same effects (and probably in most cases won't be that noticeable).

I waited the entire gen for 3rd party developers to optimise games for the cell processor on the ps3...no-one did. I'm not sure they will bother fiddling around with 32mb of ESRAM tbh.

I have to agree with you, that when given the chance humans will try the easiest path (less resistance theory)... Lets hope it'll be easier to get better at RAM than at Cell... even tough it's realistic expectation what I put (at least I think)... and as many said, most won't see a difference even if by some mistake a dev put a 720p30fps on Xbone and a 1080p60fps on PS4 (if they aren't side by side on equally good tvs).
