That's not a fair comparison. A huge chunk of those people in Europe wouldn't afford a Vita. The population that Sony really markets to is obviously larger, but handhelds are not the more common platform in Europe, unlike in Japan. Nothing excuses the level of sales Vita has in Japan. 2 mil with this much support? 3DS manages to sell more in Japan than in Europe. |
(NA -> EU -> JP -> Other -> Total)
2 | Nintendo DS (DS) | 57.29 | 52.07 | 33.01 | 12.43 | 154.80 |
3 | Game Boy (GB) | 43.18 | 40.05 | 32.47 | 2.99 | 118.69 |
8 | PlayStation Portable (PSP) | 21.34 | 23.75 | 19.87 | 15.03 | 79.99 |
9 | Game Boy Advance (GBA) | 40.39 | 21.31 | 16.96 | 2.85 | 81.51 |
Europe has never had a problem affording handheld consoles in the past.
I just find this a really odd thing to be arguing. Population does have an effect on how many handhelds can be sold, regardless of what you say, unless you believe that 500m+ Europeans are unable to afford Vitas and 100% of Japanese people are able to afford them.
