If these consoles are going to last 7+ years, smartphones will have eclipsed them by then. This generation will be much shorter(4-5 yrs) due to the way under powered systems. Even the PS4 is too weak. What is more than likely to happen is that game designers/publishers will limit their games dramatically in 2-3 years because they won't want to waste resources for just the PC market. 3-4 years from now, there will be a number of tablets with processors and GPU's that rival the XB1/PS4. Where will that leave the consoles? Why buy a console when the same games will be playable from a tablet that you can take anywhere? Sony/M$ didn't build this next gen with future proof in mind at all. |
Tablets won't be matching consoles anytime soon because they have to meet a strict power requirement and much less for a smartphone. This generation is gonna be long because PCs are going to have issues about the latest state of the art technology. Each time that is spent to manufacture smaller transistors gets longer and longer therefore process node transitions are going to get longer and in total the high tech industry won't be brining out more powerful parts anytime soon. BTW the most powerful tablet comes in at around less than 100 gflops!
