The Game Daily list -- and about half the lists on here by posters -- ignore anything pre-NES.

You have to list the Atari 2600 on it. A lifespan of over a dozen years and 40M units. It began competing against Pong and ended against the Genesis. And people still make "homebrew" games for it.

I am partial to the Intellivision. It also has extreme longevity. But its special place is licenced titles. It had MLB, NFL, NBA, NHL, NASL (now defunct soccer league), PGA, PBA, US Ski Team, even US Chess Federation and APBA Backgammon. It also had the first controller with 16 directions and 16 buttons -- sounds like today's units.

Most of the games on the list are good. But leading with something from this genreation -- which may be the lowest selling unit of this generation when it is all said and done -- is not wise. (A similar sales-realted arguement can be made for dropping the GameCube from the list).

I am Mario.

I like to jump around, and would lead a fairly serene and aimless existence if it weren't for my friends always getting into trouble. I love to help out, even when it puts me at risk. I seem to make friends with people who just can't stay out of trouble.
