Even better, watch the uncompressed videos up on Eurogamer. I don't know about you, but I see a stark difference between the two from the single player campaign footage. The PS4 version of BF4 looks a lot better in motion than in those stills. You get; less aliasing, shimmering, artifacts and much cleaner image quality overall, with nicer lighting to boot (thanks to the inclusion of AO) - something which is missing from the XB1 version of this build. Although both will have it in the final version. Also, for good measure I tried applying some sharpening effects through my display and MPC-HC video player (with sharpen complex 2 shader on) and.. well, lets say the the higher res one wins out by a country mile in terms of picture quality. And just think, BF4 is 720p/900p on consoles. The difference will be much more apparent when you're looking at a 720p game in comparision to a 1080p one. Have to warn you though.. the files are massive. o.O |
But I don't care about the XOne version. I don't want to compare it with the aliased 720p version. Please stop asking me to compare it with the shimmered XOne version. It is not a PS4/XOne contest.
I am comparing with the PC version. I would have wanted the same sharpness (at least) as the PC version. FXAA or upscaling should not blur so much the whole scene. PS3 upscaled or antialiased games didn't blur so much the textures nor the assets. Some are really sensitive to jaggies, I am not. I am sensitive to blur, since my PAL N64 I think which traumatized me in this aspect.I would prefer play a game on my crisp ambassador 3DS screen than on a 1080p strongly Quincunuxed game.
I have seen enough different internet footage to CONVINCE me that the "soft blur" Eurogamer was talking is not an illusion. Thank you Digital Foundry for daring to speak the truth in this troubled fanboys era.
