Ive noticed this as well, especially with this years annual release. People ask me which one is better, instead of saying A or B I just run through what each game offers. They will mention how amazing Battlefield sounds but refuse to buy it over CoD simply because thats what their friends play.

Idk, maybe I am just more independent hermit type of gamer. But I don't need validation from friends to make a purchase. I also don't NEED to play with friends, thats why these games have online communities. I have never had any issue with playing with random ppl in Uncharted. The experience is just the same. Sometimes that makes it more interesting than playing with those I know. Its also how you make NEW friends. Thats why my friends list is always full, from the ppl i meet via Multiplayer games. Are most gamers agorophobic or something?

I really want to do a social experiment with a clique of friends. Ask them each why they are getting a particular game. I have a hunch they will all say the same thing. So then will have to find out how this hive mind mentality really works. Who is the first person making this decision? and Why?

I would bet that in most cases you wouldn't find one person making the choice that everybody else follows. I bet you that in most friend circles, the conversation of which console to get never happens. They just all assume that everyone else is getting the new version of what they already have.
