Speaking purely from a 360 perspective here, as i have done 95% of my gaming this gen on that platform.
My joint fave GOTG were both made by third parties. (Dead Rising 1 & Ninja Gaiden 2: Blood Edition).
Breakdown of genres, and my fave for this gen.........
FPS of the gen.......... COD4. (Honourable Mention: Halo 3)
Sandbox......... Dead Rising (Honourable: Saints Row 2)
TPS....... Gears 3 (Honourable: Binary Domain)
Platformer..... Sonic Generations (Honourable: Rayman Origins)
Sports......... Virtua Tennis 3 (Honourable: PGA Tour '10)
Hack 'n Slash...... Ninja Gaiden 2 (Honourable: Bayonetta)
Racing..... Sonic & All Stars Racing: Transformed (Honourable: Forza 3)
Action-Adventure...... Tomb Raider (Honourable: Hitman: Absolution)
RPG........ not my cup of tea this genre (Deus Ex passes as an RPG apparently, so its in a class of its own)
RTS......... not in a million years, can't stand this genre.
Music & Rhythm....... only played one game, Guitar Hero 3 (Excellent song list for the most part, has to be said)
Fighting........ Street Fighter IV (Honourable: Mortal Kombat)
and XBLA....... Double Dragon: Neon (Honourable: Mark of The Ninja)
Only Exclusive that won ANY category was Gears 3. (and thats not even first party)
Dead Rising 1 is exclusive to 360 (i know theres the Gimped Wii version out there too, but come on) however, the franchise is very much Capcoms.
Sums it up really, overall 3rd party games still very much rule the roost for me.
