Horribly sensationalist article. I could barely read the entire thing. "Doritocracy"? Anything that resorts to ridicule like that, I just can't take seriously. It's a shame they had to go that route instead of a mature analysis.

Personally, as someone to whom the resolution wars don't matter all that, I can completely understand when someone writes an editorial saying--that's right--it doesn't matter all that much.

Also, the attempt to compare entire consoles to PC GPUs, which are dedicated components, was just silliness, especially when the Xbox One has functionality that the PS4 does not. I don't know how much Kinect is worth separately but I'd bet it comes close to that $100 the author keeps talking about, though he never mentions that particular, and very obvious, difference.

If you think that the resolution thing is a deal-breaker, awesome, do what you need to do. However, I'm getting a bit tired of people acting as though it should be a deal-breaker for EVERYONE. News flash--to many, many people, there are far more important factors to consider first.

That's fine if resolution doesn't matter to you. But does that mean media outlets should downplay the obvious discrepancies in output from these machines? To what end? If it doesn't matter to you then the truth wouldn't affect your decision anyways. But to whitewash it could affect the decisions of those to whom this does matter. That's what the author is trying to get across.

And while there are definitely other details outside of graphic prowess to compare the point is they aren't even bringing those points into the argument. The author is accusing them of downplaying the differences or outright glossing them over to appear impartial or protect their access to the developers.
