Im pretty sure gamestop (the largest game retailer in america) has enough data that it can be assumed to reflect the market as whole, scientifically speaking plus or minus a few points.

i no deal assume only fact. i find this http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/wal-mart-top-us-games-retailer what have you? butt?

Walmart is big box, it sells everything.  I was talking about game specific retailers.  Anyway, do you know how polling is done?  Much like the article you just posted there, they surveyed a bunch of people until they had a large enough sample size so they could determine within a margin of possibility who the most popular game retailer was.  It is a scientific fact that if you have a large enough sample size you can accurately predict the outcome of event within a certain margin.  Gamestop certainly has enough of a sample size to have a good idea of what the numbers are going to be, at least here in america.  Besides, this whole thing really boils down to how many systems are available at launch.  If gamestop is getting more ps4s than x1s, then it is going to be the same situation at every other retailer.
