In CVG's Battlefield 4 review, we wrote "there's an indisputable star of the show here, it's plainly the all-new, all-singing, all-shooting Frostbite 3 engine that blazes out at 900p on PS4 (and at 720p on Xbox One)".

"Both versions looked stunning, though the consensus was that the PS4 version definitely shaded it," it wrote.

VideoGamer, meanwhile, claims the game "looks stunning - especially on PS4". It adds: "It's eye-gogglingly beautiful, laced with breathtaking lighting and particle effects, and offers a significant visual and mechanical step up over the current-gen version".

Eurogamer adds: "Based on what we've seen so far, the Microsoft console manages to hold up despite the undeniable, quantifiably worse metrics [compared to PS4] in terms of both resolution and frame-rate."

However, Polygon points out that "neither console is rendering Battlefield 4 at a native 1080p resolution", and suggests the difference isn't as discernable.

It adds: "The PS4 version is somewhat sharper than the Xbox One release. Other than that, the two games look very similar over the course of Battlefield 4's single-player campaign, with the same lighting and frame-rate throughout."
