It probably takes them a lot more effort to adapt their game engine than others. Badly designed or single threaded game engines will take a complete redesign to get good results on the PS3 (on a PC you can just require your customers to buy higher specced systems without pushing your developers towards better efficiency). But PC gaming and game consoles have gone multi-core (multi-processor / multi-system with regard to the PS3), the road ahead is unavoidable.
The BeBox was one of the first Amiga-inspired PCs using multiple full processors. BeOS was a wonderful operating system which could show good results today if it wasn't dead. BeOS couldn't show its true potential on single processor PC setups. It makes sense modern operating systems will be adapted to get more out of multi-processing eventually as well, sadly apart from some OSes like BeOS and QNX this would take a huge redesign just like some legacy game engines.
