"C - None, common practice"
it is common practise for a large organisation to evaluate all their options. what matters is the option they ultimately chose.

which also applies to MS of course...

not really, because sony left it on the drawing board (and no-one knew until now, assuming ofcourse it is true). MS went ahead with it and tried to push it for many months before accepting defeat.

wtf...

How would withdrawing it by a patch be leaving it on the drawingboard exactly?

I'd call that dishonest in the extreme.  What the OP is hypothesizing is that the patch REMOVES the DRM from the PS4 and Sony lied all along.  Care to answer again now?

the rumor is that sony had ideas about DRM, but it isnt built into the system and the patch doesnt remove whats not there.

Sony have already announced you can buy a PS4 and play games without ever going online, this includes pre-owned games so im not sure what has led you to believe all launch PS4's come with DRM and you cant play games without the update.

Its online games that you cant play, but that applies to PS3 as well. if theres an update available for ps3 and you dont download it, then sorry youre not going online. thats not DRM, thats called 'the hardware having the software to be able to connect to networks to play games online'

Just because the hardware is ready it doesnt mean the software is. in addition to what sony and MS announce for day 1 updates, there will also be things like codecs, drivers and other patches which they didnt have ready in time when the consoles were manufactured and they sure as hell are not doing to go to every single console and update them.
