well at least that's what I understood from XB1... for PS4 I'm not sure, but if it's the same disc drive I think it will be pretty similar in other words mandatory installs will come with pretty much any game this gen...
now that said I'm planning on going full DD this gen I don't see the issue really ???? storage space is getting cheaper by the minute and it's not like it will be used only for the XB... heck I'll probably set up a new great NAS or something I'll see how this works out.... worst case scenario I'll get a 2TB+ USB 3.0 SSD.... like I have planned to do for ever... I'm just waiting for the right reason, time/price.... seems like 2014 will be it...
and well download I don't really see the issue, I'll just launch the DL at midnight (if we can preorder even better) which would mean I would actually get the game probably earlier than if I bought it physically because I buy online most of the time and even if I go to a local store I never do the midnight line and rarely go the D day.... and I'm pretty sure that is the case for a huge chunk of the gamers population... heck I even get a 6 hour head start since I use US XBL and I live in europe.... so all in all DD will allow me to get games faster than I do today with physical discs...

Yes, mandatory installs will probably remain, but still in the current range of 3 to 10 GB max we see on PS3 games. Games will jump to 30 to 50 GB in size, so we can assume that a 2 TB drive will retain around 45 games and thats a pretty decent amount of games. I'm not so sure about external drives, since games will use disk installs to stream data of both sources (disk and BD), like GTA V, and will require high transfer speeds.

well I was talking in my case which full DD no disc streaming.... and from what I understand this will not happen on XB1... the disk won't even be spining after DRM check from what I get... since the idea was to be able to play without disk first.... now the disk is just here to compansate for the absence of online check requirement that's it....
no for XB there is no other choice than external since we can't change the internal one (or at least not officially) now I don't know what's inside the XB1 but USB 3 is 5Gbps speed unless they use the last SATA revision they'll be at 6Gbps anyway...
