The Order is actually 1080p in terms of mapping so there will be no stretching or any of the sort. It just has black bars for cinematic reasons.

I think it's visually quite pleasing. I'm currently playing Beyond 2 souls and it's much nicer to have a consistent aspect ratio then changing it back and forth between cutscenes. 2.35:1 is more natural to look at and offers better options for framing, much nicer then having a lot of excess sky and floor dominating the picture.

It fully depends on the game though. Racing games need the full height to give you as much resolution as possible looking down the road, there vertical resolution is more important then horizontal.
