I've always thought the "console wars" were an interesting premise. Especially this past generation, when things were on a more level playing ground. I don't know why, but I've just thought of a cool little connection between the 3 major gaming companies and the drivers in the movie Cars.
This is only make sense to those who have seen the movie.

So obviously in this picture you have three cars. There's Lightning McQueen in red, Chick Hicks in green, and Strip "The King" Weathers representing Dinaco blue.
The comparison I make is from each car's personality. And the fun part is you can mix them up in any different way. For example:
Lightening McQueen- Lighting McQueen is the new up-and-coming racing phenom. He's new to the racing game, but doesn't lack talent and arrogance. He can easily be compared to Microsoft. Microsoft is the newest of the three gaming companies. Many didn't think they understood the gamer, but had a mentality of "We're already the PC kings, we can do gaming too". While not successful as first, Microsoft has hit their stride with the Xbox 360, and looks to improve with their next console as well. McQueen is shiny and confident, appealing to the mainstream audience, ala Microsoft appealing to the core gamer in the USA.
Strip "The King" Weathers - This is where it gets trickier. "The King" could be either Sony or Nintendo in my opinion. You can relate Sony to "The King" based on their past domination of the gaming market. Sony casually got up every morning to completely own the gaming industry with the Playstation and Ps2. They were well respected and were somewhat morally appeasing. However, you could also make the comparison of "The King" to Nintendo. Long before the Ps1, Nintendo dominated the gaming industry. With Mario, Zelda, and others the Nes/Snes/Gameboy all sold a fuckton of units and Nintendo was very well respected. They went about their business casually and eventually got old and faded away from the competition. But then the Wii came out and reclaimed the throne while the Ps3 struggled into last place. You could argue either company could proclaim themselves as "The King"
Chick Hicks - Lastly you have Chick Hicks, in the green. Cocky, rude, and downright unpleasent, I think he most likely represents Microsoft. However, the placing is off. Chick isn't very successful, He's always the 3rd placer. So in my opinion, he could be either Microsoft, Sony, or again Nintendo, depending on which generation you're talking about. Remember, before this brilliant Ps4 marketing campaign of catering to consumers, Sony was known for having terrible marketing. Nintendo was very hit/miss during the gamecube era, as was Microsoft with the original Xbox. Again, it depends on which generation you're talking about.
Closing: just a fun little read I'd though I'd share with my Vgchartz community. Which car do you relate each gaming company to? Or better yet, what are some other films/books/games that have three protagonist that can be compared to Sony, Nintendo, and Microsoft?
Discuss.
EDIT: Put title in caps to attrack dudebros.
