Like this gen showed?
''Jumping in early'' was the only reason Xbox stayed competitive for as long as it did.

That's not really accurate. Vociferous and loyal fans were the ONLY reason the PS3 didn't cease to exist. Do you remember the first 18 months of the PS3's life? It was the most expensive. It's biggest early titles were mostly delayed for long periods (i.e. GT5, KZ2) or terrible disappointments (i.e. Lair, Haze). All Multiplats were superior on the 360, and PSN was a pale shadow of Xbox Live. While the 360 had more early adopters, the fact that literally EVERY gamer didn't go 360 first was due solely to Sony's loyal fanbase. Sony more than made up that ground as the generation continued - no question. But let's face it, if the PS4 hadn't been riding a wave of loyalty, it would have been left adrift.

Yet it had Blu Ray (ba FAR the cheapest), free online, and games like Uncharted, Heavenly Sword and the freaking MGS4. PSN was nothing to write home about but the online play worked pretty well. And multiplat difference wasnt anything too major. Dont pretend like PS3 had no appeal at all during Nov 06-Jun0 08

You named 3 games worth playing on the PS3 over the course of it's first 18 months. MGS4 was released a full year and a half after the system. That's exactly the point I'm trying to make. If you didn't care about uncharted or heavenly sword, there was no reason to get a PS3 until 2008.
Defending early PSN and multiplat quality is..... making my point for me. 360 had nearly every advantage (except Bluray) but loyalists like yourself would look for reasons to favor the PS3 when it had nothing on the 360 for the first 2 years.

There's also Ratchet and Clanks, as well as Resistance FOM and Motorstorm and of course Warhawk :)
Together with Blu Ray playback, free online and superior hardware, PS3 defintely had the appeal and bigger value of Xbox 360. Heck, if all Sony loyalists from PS2 era bought PS3 in first 18 monts, PS3 would sell 30 million in that time :)
Also, I bought a PS3 in Jan 2009. Hardly an early adoptation
