The Japanese LOVE American 'stuff'. They don't love a lot of american produced tech, though.
If you recall the early days of the 360, MS broke the bank to secure exclusive JRPGs and thing sliek Ace Combat in order to appeal to japanese gamers. In the end, gamers there mostly stayed local to a japanese brand, and didn't bite. MS didn't make the right move. The right move would have been to ignore japan and focus on Europe.
