I thought they had explained the PS4 price was mainly tax recently? I expect a round of boos on the price announcement (unless its an invite only audience)

So are you still expecting some kind of reverse psychology marketing stunt?

The price calculation is petty much correct. They used a 25% state tax rate where I think most states are around the 18% range. The whole thing is geared towards making gamers, and people in general, angry against the horrible taxing laws in Brazil (which change almost on a weekly basis depending on your insider contacts it seems). Sony is fully aware that they won't sell more than "a few for the rich" consoles. They have every interest in getting people angry against the government because they import a lot more than consoles at crazy tax rates. Lower taxes due to public pressure would significantly increase business chances for Sony (and any other electronics manufacturer). I'm pretty sure Sony has already made the plans to assemble the PS4 at their PS3 plant in Manaus (if not there's a guy to be fired instantly). However, starting end assembly in a foreign territory is not something you start from day zero with brand new stuff, first you find out the quirks that happen at your regular plants.
