Of course any game can have dedicated servers, the key is how many and at what capacity. Also we are not talking about First party but 3rd party games. So just wanted to put things in perspective, do you think Sony will fund dedicated servers for Titanfall and if not do you think EA will. Also if neither fund dedicated servers for Titanfall and it becomes a important resource on the X1 platform do you think P2P will cut it for the PS4. Also Gaikai cannot be leverage in this space as the type of service it does is Saas and not Paas. The difference between the 2 is not as simple as some might think. |
If the game is a big enough deal the company making it will do what they have to in order to get it to the platforms they want it on and in some cases the company will prefer to run their own. A lot of Xbox fans were smirking when it was revealed that the X1 version of CoD: Ghosts would have dedicated servers and they thought that it meant their version was superior. That the PS4 version would lack such server support. Now we know that the PS4 version will also have them. So it seems that Activision didn't care if the PS4 was lacking "300,000 servers". Do you honestly believe EA will NOT run its own servers for Titanfall for PS4 if it has to? Ofcourse they will. PS4 is going to be a huge deal worldwide. The "Power of the Cloud" has yet to be displayed despite all the claims. We have not actually seen a single example of how Microsoft's cloud computing platform made something possible on the X1 that would have been impossible without it and required the large investment. It really has been all promises up to this point.
