I don't see why they would jump ship. Sony has bought many developers over the past few years (Zipper Interactive, Guerrilla Games, Evolution Studios, among others), none of which have had a mass exodus of employees after the fact. And, from what I understand, Sony is quite an appealing company to work for. Just ask the guys at Naughty Dog or Sony Santa Monica. Most developers that Sony acquires seem quite content to become a part of SCEWWS, as they can then work with other Sony studios to optimize engines, etc. and received great support from Sony higher ups, in the form of devkits, etc. (though some receive this support while remaining independent, ala Insomniac). Actually, the studios which Sony usually buys are those that they have already formed strong second party ties with, so it's not like they randomly buy studios that have no experience with Sony. Even developers that do jump ship (like David Jaffe) usually stick around Sony in some form or another (Jaffe's new independent studio Eat Sleep Play develops only PlayStation exclusives). |
Indeed. Sony puts out more games than Nintendo and Microsoft combined, I believe, so it's not like there's a small sample to show it's successful.
