Nope I am not influenced by stuff like that. There is another reason why I am not exited about next gen its called Oculus Rift it literally destroyed any desire I had, to own a console. Sadly Oculus is not ready yet to be a real alternative so I gave up on gaming until Oculus hits the consumer market. I am now a PC only guy. I dont have the time to play all the the games so I just focus on making the time I play games as impressive as possible and PC is just the best platform for that. So I can see the technology evolve at a faster pace than I could on a Console.

Did you try it in real life and was it really that impressive?

Also, don't you risk getting yourself alienated from gaming if you take such a long break?

I did try it myself. I had 2 moments in gaming that opened my eyes. Mario 64 was the first one. I saw how amazing 3D can be in the future. I was totally blown away. The second was Half Life 2 in the Rift. It changed my perception of what gaming can do for a person. The rift makes you feel as if the world around you is real you feel like you are there in that game everything is way more intense like 10fold. You feel vulnerable, npc´s feel more real. I felt like Alyx will grow a concious mind and plopp into existence any second when she looked in my eyes. I can just imagine what kind of Horror/Adventure games will be made for it. For me atleast its a total game changer. In its current form there is ofcourse alot to improve still its an fascinating experience even with the huge flaws like resolution and the fact that some stuff is completly disproportional. I was fed up with gaming after the 5th gen the 7th gen was enough of a change for me to get interested in it again. Yet after playing with the Rift I dont have the urge to play on a normal monitor. I got bored before with most games and had to force me to finish games that people hold in highest regard.

The rift made me want to play everything again. I will wait for a 1440p  Version possibly with cameras, positional tracking. And 20nm GPUs before I consider gaming again, this way I will be totally blown away by games once again. I had several years where I didnt play any game in the past. I always play in bursts. If I am used to the recipies I get bored with the third installment everytime. Like Bethesda games I played Oblivion Fallout to the death and couldnt get enough of it but now I had to force myself to play New Vegas and Skyrim and I didnt even finish everything because I felt like I already played the games in a different costume.

Ever thought of the possibilites for new kind of games like the cameras take your view (flat for example) and overlay stuff (monster lurking in the shadows of your own flat) or ingame constructs based on your immediate surroundings so you can walk safely everywhere but you have to solve murder mysteries while walking around in your house. And the game actually uses the correct distances to any object but your house wont be your house but a medieval castle of some kind.  3D Concerts/Events life streamed or a private cinema on jupiters moon europa where you watch the newest movies while asteroids are flying above your head and you see jupiter and giant icecliffs around you.

The potential is just overwhelming and the difference to the past is that the technology is finally at a level where VR doesnt have to be a headache inducing cheap imitation of the reality with blocky graphics and a narrow field of view.
