Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit was meant to be a "reboot" from Criterion (given hot pursuit was considered the pinnacle of the franchise). Need for Speed: Most Wanted was the 2nd Criterion release and again, that was also a reboot, though was also more also a way of bringing Burnout Paradise's gameplay to the series with real vehicles.
