Well I won't argue on the tax thing. But I don't believe it's arseholism that takes RRP in USA $100 cheaper and turns it into $800US more expensive in Brazil. Shit, if Sony pulled that here in New Zealand out of arseholism I'd buy an Xb one and a Wii U just to spite them.  I can't believe Sony would be so self defeating as to have such a huge price disparity for a console that's meant to be cheaper than its primary competition.

The market over here have been operating on insane practices for centuries now. The drive pushing prices up is stronger than any beneficial effect market competition could have. Some market segments seemed to be getting over it, at least partly, but Sony pushed the envelope this time around. Just so you can compare, for 5% more you can buy an USD 1000 MacBook Air from Apple Brazil. They are literally some 100% above the rest of the market. One major news sites even run an entire news interviewing economists and market analysts who were unanimous on pointing out there is no reasonable explanation.

They even took the crown from the non-official Wii launch who was USD 1050 for a month before dropping to USD 600 and frankly I thought it was impossible. Either way, I'm sure the price is coming down not long after launch. It has to. But Sony's reputation over here is already stained. It's easy to notice on any comments section or even the official facebook page of Sony Brazil which has some hilarious comments.
