Probably because that isn't a price cut. It's a holiday promotion, just like with the PS3 every year. That and I don't even think it's had that $50 promotion every year, I think sometimes it was a gift card or just games bundled with it.
It hasn't had a price cut since 2008, because the price is still $300 for the 250GB model... insane really that it still beats the PS3 in the US and stays close worldwide when the PS4 is actually cheaper and has been for quite some time. The 250GB model should/could be $99-149 by now, but it's not because MS is taking a lesson from Nintendo and going for profits instead of letting marketshare at the cost of profits be the be-all-end-all.
