Hideki Kamiya has wanted to make Devil May Cry since DMC1 came out. None of the DMC games are true sequels to the original game; so if Platinum Games were given a shot at it I would like them to start from the beginning rather than continue DMC4, which I think was a low point for the series.
When someone refers to a 'lot of DMC fans hated DmC'; their referring to fans who only wanted DMC4 to continue.
The fans of the series who started playing DMC with DMC1 know that there are no true sequels to DMC1 for various reasons. The sequels that were made were Capcom's sequels not Team Little Devils' sequels. Thus I don't care about where DMC4 was going, because it was nothing like the original game, nor did I believe it was taking the series to new heights.
Personally, after having spend a lot of time with the series, I can see why Capcom didn't want to continue DMC4. I wouldn't want Kobayashi near the series again after the story and the characterisations of DMC4. That being said Platnium Games don't write particularly thought proving stories, which is something Ninja Theory do very well by comparison.
DmC did in my view feature the best combat in the series. Whether or not Capcom decide to continue it or not we don't know, but to pretend DMC4 was going somewhere to dismiss DmC is deceptive. DmC was taking the series forward in ways DMC4 wasn't so I would rather see that continue.
