Proprietary Eponyms (I had to look that up). In much of the UK, Playstation is still somewhat the common name for a gaming console and Nintendo is for a handheld, regardless of what it actually is.


I dont think the Nintendo one is true.  Playstation and xbox get used equally now.  Even seen xbox used in news stories and soaps as the proprietary eponym.

I guess it's mostly a generational thing. My grandmother and parents still call my playstation "the Nintendo". Weird thing is that I've only owned 1 nintendo console, but 3 ps's and an xbox. I'm sure when I get the PS4, they'll also call it "the Nintendo".
