It is tempting but I'd have to drive for over 2 hours(if the traffic goes right) just to get to where you start. Plus work and kids.

So deepest Cormwall then? Plymouth to Truro, St Agnes and aroiund there usually takes me about 1 hour 15.

Penzance. If the traffic goes to shit it can take an hour to get as far as truro. If the traffic is OK then an hour will get you to bodmin.

If you go for a 5- 10pm slot, Im guessing youd leave for about 12ish. The traffic should be good that time of day. Wierd that you live quite close to me. Haha.
