Those things broke faster than the average walkthrough of Super Mario 64.
The point is that the stick for the N64 was ALWAYS the main input. The games were created FOR this stick and the stick was well placed on the controller as the main input option.
Sony saw that Nintendo had something there and copied it to implement it later. If this reminds you of the PS Move or the rumble pack, it might be by accident. They placed the sticks not as the main input option, that was still the dpad. The games were not designed for those sticks only and neither was the controller.
The analog sticks felt better on the PS1 than the N64, but the placement was bad and the software was not specifically made for it. And even today the thumbsticks are not well placed on the PS4 controller.
Imagine not having GamePass on your console...
