To keep ahead of AMD, it makes complete sense. Plus it hurts nothing, given that, as you said, it's on the same die. On the other hand, that is irrelevant since they're not chasing a new crowd with the Ultra. 

Also, rumor has it the Maxwell GPU release has shifted to Q3 2014 at the earliest (which is smart, since Intel plans to release Haswell-E then).

I don't know how credible that rumor is. 

It's as credible as the rumor that points to Q1. Neither has any weight over the other. I believe mine, however, because the new GPU is a certainty, whether it's the GTX 790 or Titan Ultra.

They're having a show for it on the 16th.

That says Q4 and not Q3 so does that mean the nvidia maxwell has been further delayed ?
