I think it's more that they saw an opportunity in Japan to mimic what's happening in the west with the rise of internet-based television. The Vita part is just icing on the cake. It will be interesting to see if the Japanese go for it. It could be a hit. In the US, not so much, there is too much competition in that sector, especially with established named like Roku and Apple, not to mention the home consoles. Europe, maybe, though I'm unsure how internet television is doing there.
