I disagree.

For eight months, PS2 was only available in Japan. Then eight months later was released about the same time in Americas and Others.

PS3 was released at virtually the same time in Japan and Americas, then four months later in Others.

That time difference in releases does make a difference in the comparisons. After four months, the PS3 numbers are for all regions vs. PS2 for one region. That's why the regional comparisons are more telling. (The Wii numbers were included for reference because in both Japan and Amercans, the Wii and PS3 were released at about the same time. But they are not germane to this conversation).

Thus, I conclude that the PS3 is doing OK. It should pass the X360, probably this year.

But the PS3 is not doing PS2 type of numbers though and will not reach the numbers of the PS2. It will take a lot for any console to reach 125M again -- unless China and India buy a lot. But given global economic times, purchases of this type may be restricted. Furthermore, the PS2 is the only sequel console in history to outsell its predessor when the previous console was the market leader -- so it is a unique piece of hardware.

I like to jump around, and would lead a fairly serene and aimless existence if it weren't for my friends always getting into trouble. I love to help out, even when it puts me at risk. I seem to make friends with people who just can't stay out of trouble.
