What is everybody going to do? Physical or "Game ownership", digital or "Long term rental", or both?

Sorry. But I couldnt resist. I will be getting retail version. This gen many of my friends got digital version but I didnt.
As psn / xbox live service will be terminated for ps3 / xbox 360 after 7-8 years later those "digital" versions will not exist. But retail versions will exist. I purposely missed lots of psn only games this gen. I waited journey collectors edition to come out because I was reluctant to get digital copy.
For me a new game means getting the sealed copy, opening the plastic wrap, smelling the box and booklets (they are becoming novelty now) and inserting the disk in the console. I dont know how long I will be able to resist digital games especially digital only ones but I will do my best to resist. The day physical games will cease to exist will be a dark day for gamers.

This 100%. I could also quote JazzB1987.
With the emphasis on the 'ownership' and 'long term rental' part. I think a lot of people will feel sorry for ever going digital in the long run. I'm still playing games that are over 20 years old, I'd like to be able to do the same thing 20 years from now. Only possible with physical.
I won't go digital, ever. If gaming becomes digital only, I'll stop getting new games. Luckily the backlog of games produced up until now over the generations is more than big enough to last a lifetime .

Yup. A few years from now on there will be no evidence of digital games while we will produly show our retail versions. Good news is that retail versions will not go that easily.
