He needed to. He kept screwing up Green Bay's future when they couldn't be sure if he'd stay or go.

He needed to get in or get out.

Is that why he had one of his best seasons last year and led his team, the youngest in the NFL, to the NFC championship game? The pack missed being in the super bowl by one throw. One. They were clearly the second best team in the playoffs last year behind the Giants.

The simple fact is that the GM didn't want Favre back in 2007. Favre knew this when Thompson passed on Moss for -- well, basically for free. Favre offered to give some of his salary to pay Moss' contract in Green Bay. Moss went on to break the single season record for most TDs by a wide receiver.

Favre is gone because upper management didn't want him. It's a shame -- after all these years Favre was still the Packers' best chance of reaching and winning the superbowl in the 2008/2009 season.

from what i've seen i think rogers is a very capable QB and the packers will do well with him. i just hope my fellow packer fans give him an honest chance. if we always compare him to favre we are certain to be disappointed. well, regardless rogers will be any QB the bears have seen in the last 17 years. xD

There will be inevitable comparisons whenever you have a QB that is arguably the best of all time at the time of his retirement. Personally, I'm torn -- I'd like to see Favre win the big game again and I know he has it in him, but I like to see him retire on a high note.  His last throw was a game losing interception, though.
