Whenever I want to know something about internet connection in relation to gaming, I talk to #xMaccabix. He has a CCIE and he knows more about netcode than any one I know, he is well known in the gaming industry, particularly the cod community. This is what he has to say on the topic of Cod Ghost and listen servers.

#Ghosts dedis -listen server erm....

Since @Iwmarkrubin (thanks mark) caused my feed to explode I've seen alot of tweets about the servers. So here's a quick stop the misconceptions spreading.

Why is there still listen servers? - You need a fall back system in case there is an issue with the dedi system firstly, and secondly and more importantly not every area will have a dedi close enough to make using then viable. As such you would still need the means to connect players into matches hence the need for listen servers still. Another reason why we will still need listen servers is for players outside a catchment area that gives a good ping to a certain dedis location or in low pop areas that dont have dedis in the first place.

Following on to this Dedi's are not a magical end latency magic bullet, your connection quality is still only as good as the ping you get to a dedi. This is NOT down to how much bandwidth (speed) you have, or the amount of money you pay for your internet connection it is down to distance to the server you want to connect to, the way the internet routes traffic and he method at which you are matchmade to a session.

Matchmaking will still try to match you into the BEST session available at the time of the search.

Things that are in the works/planned/might be added mentioned by Mark Rubin in subsequent replies to questions. (disclaimer does NOT mean guaranteed -if they do happen do not expect these till sometime after launch )
