As Sony has said Playstation is now one of there pillars if it fails the whole of Sony fails. There are many departments sony may close if there not profitable but Playstation is not one of them as it is profitable and for once there starting a generation without selling at a loss. Playstation aint going anywhere it really isnt a concern at all.

@bold:  The PS4 hardware is launching at a loss, albeit a relatively small one.

Yes i understand that but who the hell is going to buy a console without a game, there would have to be a concentrated effort of people buying consoles without games for sony to post a loss on PS4 sales. Especially as most people i know are buying one with 2 or 3 games.

Of course, but like Nintendo with the WiiU it's not entirely clear if the game purchase referenced to turn a profit means any game or Sony 1st party.  So if someone only wants, say, Watch Dogs and is not interested in paying for online it could potentially be a loss for Sony there at the beginning.

This scenario will most certainly be the exception though, so it really shouldn't be much of an issue, but my point was that they aren't breaking even or profiting on the hardware alone, which of course would be a better scenario for Sony at this juncture.

the scenario has less than 1% chance of happening, most will be buying multiple games or at least Plus, no one will be buying a device with nothing to play on it.
