Seems like an odd move. If I was contacted by a store saying I had to upgrade my launch pre-order to include a bundled game I'd cancel my pre-order unless one of the game options was a game I was going to buy at launch anyway. Either way, Sony would lose out from me, temporarily in the case of me cancelling my pre-order, permanently in the case of Sony selling me a game I already was committed to buying at a lower price than I had originally planned to pay.
So I find this a move that is rather hard to understand. But then I'm not the console pre-ordering type, so perhaps the psyche of the person who pre-orders consoles is different and most of those people will take the bundle regardless of the game options and buy other games along with the bundle and thus make Sony more money.
