Taking risks doesnt just mean making new IP. Nintendo has taken risks with many of there games and consoles.
Star Fox Adventures and Metroid Prime conpletely changed genres. Zelda constantly changes its artstyle. 3D Mario is always changing, 64/Sunshine/Galaxy all have very distint differences. Nintendo DS and Wii were huge risks, if people didnt respond well to touch/motion controls then Nintendo could have been in alot of trouble last gen.
I dont think Nintendo is the riskiest but they do make there fair share of risks.
When the herd loses its way, the shepard must kill the bull that leads them astray.
