They can't really talk about digital sales as no one really publishes those numbers and they would have no source and that would be really bad reporting. Given how long systems like the NES, SNES, and PS1 and PS2 were on the market and supported I don't think we have any strong evidence that these current systems being out for so long should affect the overall software sales. It's not like there have been zero console launches since 08 and 09 to boot. I mean we've had 3(and all of them are under performing) So i would assume it's more about publishers not making the software the market wants outside of the few major big titles and that is where the contraction in retail sales comes from. Obviously past the first sentence is all just speculation.
