It's the most obvious thing in the world that the PS3(at launch) did not need a bluray drive. It needed a drive system and the DVD drive was more than sufficient(and MUCH cheaper). Sony made a business decision to put the bluray drive into the PS3 to ensure they had a participation in the royalties of the next gen media format. Sony did not invent the bluray drive nor does it own it. They are part of a group of electronics manufacturers that own it together. They chose to include the bluray to promote their system as some type of superior media player(which it was). It added no value to gaming other than the few titles that may have been multi disc. The only way that you can think that Sony didn't do this for themselves is if you are completely clueless about the actual history of the bluray drive or that you don't understand Sony's electronics background. Just like what M$ is trying to do now with the Kinect, Sony was making a play for a long term monetary gain. The difference here is that most of the people here want the system prices lower and can't stand having to pay for something they don't want to have. Most people felt the same way when the PS3 came out, but it turned out to be a great thing once the true HD tv's and movies were commonplace. If Sony hadn't gone with bluray(stayed with dvd), we would still have HD movies and TV's, as the alternative format or even bluray would still have been adopted and that would now be the format located in the XB1/PS4.
Literally almost unbelievable that people do not understand what happened just 7-8 years ago. |
You also aren't even arguing the points. The unbelievable ones here are you guys acting like this is even remotley the same thing. You guys are just babbling on trivial insignificant facts like who owns the blu-ray drive... Like seriously, what the fuck does that matter to our discussion? If blu-ray is the equivelant of the Kinect camera then so is 8GB of RAM and fuck, the ps2 should have used a CD-Drive right? Give up. Admit defeat. Save face

The same thing did happen with the PS2, but in that instance the upgrade to DVD was an evolutionary need. The PSone alrady had games thaat used 3-4 discs. The #1 selling feture for the PS2 after launch period was that it was a DVD player. A year or 2 later it no longer mattered as DVDplayers were much cheaper. I also agree that neither system needs 8gb of ram. So M$ and Sony are screwing us on that. But that is something that both companies are doing on the next gen. We are talking about the Kinect/Bluray comparison. You are the one that keeps bringing up other things to deflect that you are either just continuing on about this because you don't understand or just trying to get everyone's goat. Either way, the whole thing about "Admit defeat" is rather funny. I think you are the one who has proven that your replies have been clearly defeated.
