Yea that sounds like a fantastic way to snowball from early game ;). In my very first ranked game I played Leona support and got the first blood from Lee Sin who was retreating from our red jungle, things escalated quickly from there :P. I think I ended up with 7/0/5 or something like that.
Well, that said I'm still silver 3 (EuW) and I doubt I will reach gold in time to grab the Elise skin, Elise is my favorite champ and the one I have the best stats with, so that's a bit of a shame.
