I've long suspected that the prospect of such displays underestimates the value of rigidity in many applications (imagine how awkward it would be to use a tablet that flopped around like a newspaper), but that may be a solvable problem.

Rollable phones/tablets/phablets is also what I'm most exited too...though, my excitement is running bit thin, it's been so long since this concept was first displayed, and 5 years later nothing similar is on the market.

Once (hopefully) they do come out, I'm thinking all this giant screen phone era will be so much laughed upon.

Trouble is, a larger screen is only one of the reasons those phones are giant. The other is to accomodate large batteries to supply ever-hungrier SoCs and radios along with that huge screen.

So the display rolls up. Where do you put the battery now? And OLED hasn't proven to be any more power efficient than LED-backlit LCD, so a phone that folds out into a phablet will have terrible battery life.
