No, they arent.

The cream of the crop was on the Playstation 1 gen and the mega drive/genesis.snes era.

Its beyond me how back then developers could create experiences like Final Fantasy 7/9, Chrono Trigger, Xenogears and the sort and today its miserable. I think too much of the development time goes into making the 3D graphics these days and too little into making a really good game.
Before that gen, the Mega drive/snes era was pretty good aswell when games were tight and responsive. They looked good and they felt great to play.

Now look at current gen JRPG's, they are boring, dull stories for the most part. Platformers and fighters are plagued with bad controls (cause controllers got worse, in particular D-pads) and input delays. Its definitly not as enjoyable to play games as it used to be.
That simple feeling of joy when playing games like super mario world and Sonic, when gameplay sound and visual presentation came together to provide an amazing experience. Theres not many games that manage that anymore. Now its all about realism and shooting guns. Its very dull.
