He's not completely wrong about Demon's Souls, though. The game was something of a spiritual succesor to King's Field, which was very much inspired by WRPGs like Ultima.
Every time someone uses J/WRPG as a genre classifaction tends to cause confusion. :P And it's inheriently flawed, as all JRPGs ever released have been inspired by WRPGs down the line, back to the original Ultima and Wizardry. So, you are right - JRPG should mean "RPG developed in Japan" as opposed to a certain style of game divorced from its WRPG cousins.
Besides, I'm seeing more and more gameplay commanalities between them recently (see: Xenoblade). And I like it.
