Gamers who appreciate art, well told stories, and innovation see them as nothing but an obstacle that prevents people from experiencing much better available games, thus a discouragement for the development of high quality, meaningful games.

There is a conception that games like Call of Duty are largely the reason why the likes of Shadow of The Colossus are unknown and unsupported. That's why they're hated.

I'll answer to those who think that way.

No! You are not allowed to try and do an objective hierarchical classification of human creations, that would make you an arrogant elitist. The sensibilities of those who prefer ''dudebro'' games over Shadow of the Colossus are just as good as yours. The games are all equally meaningful because it's all relative to one's perception. There are no such things as objectivity when it comes to human creation, it's all about what the individual prefer. Don't you dare trying to be objective! Arguments are boring anyway, Id rather stay comfy and at ease within subjectivity.

They're free to express whatever they want. While I don't completely agree with them, I can easily relate to why they dislike this category of games, there is nothing bad about having negative views, even expressing them towards what you think is doing disservice to the gaming industry and which may potentially expand to reality. We are of course allowed to argue about it.

Perception has no absolute value whatsoever. Some people get satisfaction out of massacring people in GTA but that does not make that game morally equivalent to Shadow of The Colossus.

It is also a gamer's perception that dudebro games downgrade the gaming community, They're not imposing anything over anybody, they're merely thinking critically, believing "shoot and kill" is not a decent approach unless there is a strong and meaningful message behind the violence. Well pardon me but I respect that view even if I partially disagree with it. I wouldn't call them arrogant elitists.

You are on a roll, that was two great posts by you! I mostly agree and I like the spirit of your thinking, I was merely being caricatural and sarcastic in my response to your first post.
