He was an angel of light in the scripture. He's was actually gods most beautiful angel, but he was vain and that imperfection caused his descent because of jealousy. I don't think he would've been pretending if at one time he held rank. 

Yes, you're right... but this story in not totally in the bible, it's in the book of the creation of universe

 

There are lots of weird things that God does in the old testament, so I thing we could have had some manipulation
