Even though I think Nintendo made a big mistake in how they're put this machine together (never bank on a $100 controller if it isn't a total game changer/userbase driver), I don't want the company as a whole to suffer another GameCube, because I think it may lead to Nintendo becoming less and less the company they used to be.

So I hope sales pick up big time now.

IMO if sales still are below Nintendo's expectations by next spring IMO, I think the OS should be tweaked to work better with the Wiimote and the price should be dropped to $199.99 with a Wiimote + Wii Sports Club bundle being standard right around the time Mario Kart 8 launches. Perhaps a hardware redesign in general.

You gotta ride out the tablet pad a bit longer, but if its just not being accepted by consumers, then it's better to move it aside as an optional thing (like the Balance Board) rather than letting the ship sink entirely.

I don't know if the Wii U is ever going to be a "successful" console, the goal now has to be to salvage as much of this mess as possible.

I hope the Zelda bundle can at least start to boost sales for more than just 1-2 weeks, there needs to be sustained rise in the baseline of the machine now.

This is a catch 22:

Wii sports club big addition is online, but mostly Miiverse. Nintendo is pushing it as download to get people online and on Miiverse.

Miiverse wil be used to make your tennis groups, who can be integrate in bigger clubs. Think of things like, you see a person is playing online, you pop in and message. Hey, can i join? I brought whoever. We can make two againts two.

You might even just spectate on ongoing matches of your group members and cheer them on like shown in the trailer with messages. Which is great addition of the sport brand. It could be genius to integrate miiverse like that, if played right with the announced download model.

However miiverse is designed to function with the gamepad. You can't pull these apart in either way.

No gamepad, no miiverse. But no Miiverse, no expanded Wii sports online also.
