Could that have being anymore obvious considering that the vita isn't needed anymore and so is the 3DS to a lesser extent.

It doesn't matter how big mobile gaming gets, Nintendo will always have secessful handhelds.

If mobile phones managed to half how many Nintendo handhelds get sold from generation to the next, what do you think will happen in the next one?

just face it, nintendo not going out, DS was a huge Success. Half of its sales (75mil-80mil) is very successful, so nothing wrong and beside you think 3DS is gonna sell that? no way it'll end with 95mil-115mil lifetime. Nintendo isnt leaving hanndheld wen they always done so well. 3DS is proof there is still a market for handhelds

Of course they're not going out. But they're on the path to irrelevancy. 95M-115M? No way the 3DS maintains it's current yearly sales level for another 5 to 6 years.

And as I said, Nintendo isn't going to leave the handheld market because that's all they have.
