Competition will always hurt someone - or everyone, for that matter - but how much remains to be seen. 3DS, even though it isn`t doing as well as DS, it`s not doing bad, on the contrary. It`s doing really well!
But it is only normal that 3DS isn`t resonating with casuals and non-gamers as DS did because the mobile market changed a lot in a few years and made itself a good alternative to other handheld gaming devices.
It`s nothing new: when Sega appeared it took marketshare from Nintendo. And with the PS, the same happened again.
As long as there`s good and valuable competition, no side is bound to dominate over the other.
